In this article, I would like to go over some scientific facts based on my readings and personal experiences.

What are macro & micro nutrients?

Nutrients can be divided into 2 categories: macronutrients, and micronutrients.

Macronutrients are those nutrients that the body needs in large amounts. These provide the body with energy (calories).

Micronutrients are those nutrients that the body needs in smaller amounts.

Macronutrients:

Carbohydrate: It is broken down into glucose to give energy. Carbohydrates are found in grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables.

Protein: Broken down into amino acids, it regenerates and repairs muscle and tissue. Legumes, soy products, nuts and seeds include protein.

Natural sources of fat: These are essential for energy, vitamin absorption, and cell structure. The top natural sources of fat are avocados, nuts, less processed fat sources like olive oil and avocado oil.

Micronutrients:

Consists of vitamins, minerals and trace elements, they lay the foundations of healthy living. Dark green leaves, vegetables and fruits are all sources of micronutrients.

What is processed food?

All the packaged products are to some degree are processed. Even the ones that say “vegan” or “gluten free” are ultra-processed. That's why I tried my best to replace processed foods with whole food plant-based products as much as possible which worked wonders for us.

I used to buy various sauces, fruit juices, crisps and plant milk from the supermarket, I now prepare these myself at home.

Although this may seem a bit difficult at first, you will soon adapt to this system. In fact, it takes 21 days for our bodies to adapt to something new. So, it is simply enough to give yourself 3 weeks in order to enhance the quality of your life.

What does plant-based diet change in our lives?

  • Diversity of plants creates diversity in your gut microbiome that means the number of healthy species in your gut.

  • Thanks to its anti-inflammatory effect, it reduces periods of recovery.

  • It is good for our health, and for the health of all living beings in nature.
